Britons are having their incomes restricted by a number of taxes which one online poll has described as unfair.
Homeowners could be inspired to seek equity release advice to see if the value of their property could ease the impact of the UK tax regime, after one financial advice service compiled a list of "unfair" taxes.
According to recent MSN Money poll of 150,000, fuel duty is the "most unfair tax" in the UK.
This was followed by council tax, inheritance tax, road tax and VAT, with income tax, stamp duty and insurance, capital gains and airport taxes completing the top ten.
The view that the UK’s tax system is unfair could lead to a rise in the popularity of equity release schemes, which allow homeowners to boost their income with funds taken from the value of their property assets.
Simon Ward, MSN Money’s senior editor, said: "With fuel prices heading for another record high, it’s perhaps not surprising that fuel duty was the popular choice as the most unfair tax.
"Interestingly, despite it becoming an election issue, national insurance didn’t make the top ten, which suggests our users think it’s fairer than many other taxes."
