More and more of the older generation are considering taking a gap year to go travelling.
Lauren Mackay, brand manager at Gap Year for Grown Ups, has suggested that although many may associate taking a year out with young people, there is really no boundary to when a person can do it.
"We are seeing more and more people taking up the opportunity to have the gap year they never had when they were younger" she said.
Ms Mackay’s comments came as Halifax reported that almost half of 55 to 64-year-olds would like to take time out and travel.
"People come back feeling refreshed and invigorated by their time away from their usual daily routines," she added.
According to Halifax, the average ‘grey gapper’ expects to spend around £2,600 when they take time out, although nearly 20 per cent would be willing to spend over £5,000.
For anyone unable to afford such a gap year, equity release could be one way of funding time off from the usual stresses and strains of everyday life as retirement approaches.
