House values are on the rise

January 29, 2010

Official Land Registry figures, published earlier this week, have revealed that the upward trajectory of house prices continued in December.

According to the latest House Price Index figures, the average UK property was worth £161,783 in the final month of 2009.

This could come as encouraging news for those who are considering taking out an equity release plan to boost their income.

Such schemes allow those who own their property to release some of the funds that they have tied up in their assets.

The Land registry figures showed that property prices had increased by 0.1 per cent in the four weeks to December and 2.5 per cent across the whole of the year.

Properties in London were revealed to have performed the best, with annual growth of 6.1 per cent.

However, those living in Wales were found to have seen their properties reduce in price by 2.5 per cent.
