Urgent action needs to be taken to address the care funding crisis in the UK.
That is according to Caroline Bernard, a spokesperson for charity Counsel and Care, which helps to provide support for older people.
Ms Bernard’s comments came as a government green paper suggested that the current care system for older people was unfair and needed reform.
"This report illustrates the yawning gap between government rhetoric and reality around the care of older people," she said.
"We need urgent action to address the care funding crisis, otherwise more and more older people simply won’t be able to get the support and services they need."
The government has set up a Big Care Debate aimed at canvassing the opinion of the public and people that work in the service.
It is hoped that the report will be able to look into what a National Care Service should look like and how it would be paid for.
For anyone looking to help older relatives or provide themselves with medical expenses, equity release can be a great way of getting some cash.
