When it comes to bagging a bargain online, pensioners are missing out.
For those who have perhaps gained some money from an equity release scheme, spending the pounds wisely will likely be high on the agenda.
However, research from the Institute of Financial Studies commissioned by Help the Aged and Age Concern has shown that non-pensioners have increased their web-based spending much faster than pensioners in the past 12 years.
Nancy Johnson, technology and digital inclusion development manager at Age Concern and Help the Aged, said: "Missing out on the best savings rates or being able to compare prices online can cost older people dearly.
"The internet isn’t a luxury any more but a necessity to ensure you get the best information and best deals."
According to the Office for National Statistics, more than two thirds of people over the age of 65 have never used the internet.
