Seven more pension schemes have been added to the Pension Protection Fund (PPF), it has been announced.
The schemes were taken "under the wing" of the PPF in February, taking the total amount of schemes under PPF protection to 120.
According to the PPF, the transfers mean an additional 2,535 people in the UK are now receiving compensation or will do in the future.
However, some industry experts have voiced concerns in the past that the level of compensation could be lower than the expected pension pay-out leaving a number of trustees out of pocket.
The rising number of schemes that have to transfer to the PPF could lead to some trustees looking into additional ways to fund their retirement.
Schemes such as equity release could provide a homeowner with a welcome financial boost with cash taken from the value of their property.
The PPF paid out around £8 million in compensation between February 1st and 28th.
