Britons on low incomes are more likely to lose their jobs and suffer financial problems, it has been claimed.
Sophia Parker, acting director at research and policy organisation the Resolution Foundation, said that difficult economic conditions are affecting low-earners more.
Households earning less than the average have been spending almost all their disposable income each week, she explained to an audience at the Northern Money Conference on Monday (March 1st).
"[This] is being accompanied by clear issues around [...] income for low earners. Partly through job loss, but actually, equally through underemployment – through a reduction in hours," Ms Parker added.
"When you have got so little room for movement, simply losing hours can make a very real difference. Low earners are in a much more vulnerable position now than they were even before the recession."
Homeowners with low incomes may be keen to know more about equity release schemes, which allow them to receive cash against the value of their home.
