Further confirmation of the fact that employing the over-60s can be beneficial has been given.

With McDonalds recently suggesting that employing older people had revenue benefits, an IT company has now claimed the same.

Winchester-based Avanquest Solutions gave two salespeople with more than 80 years of experience between them an award for their achievement.

Graham Botterrill, who is over 60, won the Highest Sales award at the company.

"I started working with computers in the late 1960s. The first machine I programmed filled a room, had one kilobyte of memory and was laughingly described as a mini-computer," he said.

Earlier this month, McDonalds outlets that employ people over the age of 60 were found to have a higher rate of customer satisfaction, with the Employers Forum on Age suggesting it was because they make a "good contribution".

Around 66 per cent of the fast food giant’s managers believed that older employees made extra effort to provide good customer service.
