With travelling one of the most popular ways to spend equity release scheme cash, it may come as no surprise that many people over 50 are heading abroad.
However, according to Post Office Travel Insurance, many middle-aged parents are going out to visit their children while they themselves are exploring the globe.
Around a fifth of people surveyed heading overseas were visiting their children as a way to broaden their own horizons.
Rachel Croft, Post Office head of travel insurance, said: " Many children may use their gap year as a chance to get away from their parents, only to find mum and dad have plans of their own to tag along."
Ms Croft added that it was useful for some parents to visit children while they were abroad as it meant they could "holiday for less".
If you want to explore the world but aren’t sure how you can afford it, equity release could be a great way of getting hold of some holiday cash.
