The spending habits of Brits going on holiday have been altered because of the recession.
That is according to flight comparison website Cheapflights, which has claimed that many Brits are now taking a series of shorter breaks rather than a traditional two week summer holiday.
Francesca Ecsery, global sales director of the website, said that many people do not want to take an extended break from the office.
"The recession is not only hitting the travel industry hard, but may be creating long-term trends in consumers’ holiday habits," she said.
Ms Ecsery added that many people were now "time poor".
According to figures from the Office for National Statistics, the number of visits abroad by UK residents in the 12 month period to June 2009 dropped by ten per cent when compared year-on-year.
For any older people who are concerned that they will not be able to finance a holiday this year, an equity release scheme could help to free up some much needed cash to head abroad.
