Public service broadcaster the BBC has announced a number of changes to its final-salary pension scheme.
Staff at the network could be encouraged to seek equity release advice after learning that as of next year, the pensionable salary of staff will increase by no more than one per cent per year.
BECTU, one of the BBC’s main unions, said the move could also prove unattractive to prospective employees.
Gerry Morrissey, the union’s general secretary, said: “The employment benefits package will not be as attractive to new employees and we believe that the BBC will struggle to attract staff with the appropriate skills levels, especially as the BBC will be recruiting a significant number of people for Salford from January 2011.”
Homeowners aged 55 years who are concerned about the prospect of living on a pension income can see how the value of their property could provide them with a tax-free cash lump sum by contacting Key Retirement Solutions for advice on equity release schemes.
