Extra cash for a special celebration
With a 50th wedding anniversary to look forward to, Charlie and Shirley Hartfield from Dartford, Kent decided to release around a third of the value of their home with an equity release plan to help pay for the celebrations and give them some extra security.
Mr Hartfield, 70, who worked for the Ford Motor company until he was 58, said; "We did it for the extra security, and also to travel".
The Hartfields spoke to their son who lives in Australia and their daughter in Kent before making their decision about equity release.
They said "You have paid the mortgage, it is your house, your money and it is not something we have been looking forward to".
The extra money generated through their equity release plan helped to make their anniversary party an extra special celebration with around 140 guests. Mr Hartfield said; "It gives us more financial elbow room".
