Mike Searle from Dorset decided to pursue his interest in historic castles and monuments when he was widowed in 2006. He spends his holidays travelling remote areas of Scotland and Ireland, photographing the historic sites that he likes to spend his free time researching.

We spent time talking about what I still wanted to achieve in life, including travelling; he was so friendly and there was never any pressure.
“My first stop was Tenerife to stay with my sister who lives there; it was so lovely to see her. Soon after I went to Torremolinos in Spain, and then I booked a fabulous cruise which stopped at Santorini in the Greek Islands – my favourite destination so far.
