What is Skype?
Skype brings together all things that are technological and makes them personal by allowing you to make video calls through your computer screen to your loved ones, wherever they are in the world, for free. Gone are the days when the only means of contact was a long distance (and rather expensive) phone call or the occasional postcard.
Skype allows you to make every conversation last without having to worry about the cost β making those miles apart from your family and friends seem that bit closer.
What do I need?
To join the Skype crowd you will need a computer or laptop with microphone and speakers, a broadband connection plus a webcam if you wish to make video calls; if you don’t have a webcam, you can still make calls for free through Skype!
Nowadays, most laptops and computers have a webcam, microphone and speakers built in, so you are probably already set up and ready to go.
Where do I download Skype from?
- Visit www.skype.com and click on the Get Skype tab.
- From the options available, click βOn Your Computer.β If you use Windows, click,Get Skype for Windows.
- Click the Download Skype option. You will now be asked to set up an account.
- Fill in the form and choose your very own Skype username and password. (This is what you will use to log-in to Skype each time you wish to use it, so keep it safe)
- After reading the terms and conditions, click I agree β Continue. Skype should now start to download onto your computer.
From here, simply follow the step by step instructions on the set-up wizard and then open Skype and sign in. You will now be presented with your personal Skype profile where you can start adding your contacts.
